Combat System

The combat system in Last War seems simple at first, but there’s a key point you need to know.

squads have a power rating, and stronger squads beat weaker ones. So far, so good. It gets tricky with rallies and special enemies. In these cases, the total rally power doesn’t attack the enemy all at once—instead, each team fights one after another! So, a rally with five 1M-power teams against a 5M-power enemy will lose, because each team hits the strong enemy in sequence and gets wiped, even though the total power (5x 1M vs 5M) looks equal.

Rallies or Teams vs Bases

All rally participants (or a single team) attack the enemy one after another in the order they joined the rally. If a base has more than one defending team, all attackers fight the first team in sequence. If it’s defeated, the next defender steps in. So, even one strong defender can wipe out a base with multiple defending teams.

Rallies vs Elites

The fighting principle is the same for Elites, but here you need to avoid too many wounded or dead squads. Otherwise, most of your rewards will go into healing or rebuilding squads. As a rule of thumb, choose Elite levels just under 50% of your team’s power. That way, you get the most rewards overall. You can always check the battle report in your mail under “Normal” to see how many squads were wounded or killed.

It also depends on what you need. If you mainly want to farm Hero XP, you might not care if most of your food and iron goes into squads. The chart below shows how to adjust Elite levels.

Rallies vs Doom Walkers

Here’s the twist: rallies must defeat the Doom Walker a total of five times. Teams fight one after another against five bosses until one side wins. Losses carry over to the next round.

Example: A rally with five teams attacks a Doom Walker. Three teams win their fight in the first round, two only injure the enemy. That leaves two wounded bosses and three wounded teams, which duel again in the next round. That’s why the recommended power is misleading—you need five teams that can beat the Doom Walker, or much stronger teams to cover for weaker ones.
