Alliance Duel (VS)

The Alliance Duel is a key part of progression in Last War, because only here can you earn large amounts of Valor Badges needed for essential research.

Mastering this event is absolutely crucial for advancing.

Each day you can unlock up to nine reward chests. There are also rewards for winning a day and for winning the week for the whole alliance.

Alliance Duel Research

With the Valor Badges you earn, you should unlock the extra chests in the "Alliance Duel" research branch as soon as possible. This way you get more Valor Badges and can score more points on Day 3.

Saving Items

The key to scoring big VS points is to be patient all week, save certain items, and only open them on the right days:

  • Drone Parts
  • Battle Data
  • Skill Chip Chests
  • Skill Medals
  • Hero XP
  • Hero Shards
  • Hero Recruitment Tickets
  • Survivor Recruitment Tickets
  • Universal Shards
  • Speedups
  • Valor Badges
  • Drone Component Chests
    • Trade Contracts
    • Secret Orders

* These don’t need to be saved completely, but should be available to generate UR Trucks and Missions on Tuesday and Saturday.

Day 1: Radar Training

The first day of the duel is all about resource gathering, stamina, radar tasks, and drone upgrades. It’s smart to combine VS with Arms Race at 16:00 CET (Drone Boost) to double up on rewards. Hero XP also gives points, but should be saved for Day 4.

Resource Gathering

These are not to be underestimated. A level 10 field can give up to 250k points depending on your research. If you have four teams, that’s 1M points, and with good planning you can gather three tiles per team per day. Ideally, send gatherers out the day before and time it so they finish after server reset on Monday (04:00 CET). These resources will count for VS points. Then keep gathering throughout the day and plan the last round so teams finish before the next server reset. If you need teams for other tasks, just recall them from the tiles and send them back later.

You can check the expected gathering time and finish by clicking the resource tile. Pick a level that fits your time window. Note that different teams may have different gathering times depending on research.

Radar Tasks

Save radar tasks the day before so you start VS day with a full set. See Saving Radar Tasks.

Drone Upgrades

To score big, you’ll need lots of Drone Parts and Battle Data. Redeem them ideally with Drone Boost during Arms Race.

Additionally you should open Skill Chip Chests to generate points through received Premium Chip Material.

Day 2: Base Upgrade

On day two, the main goal is to secure the Secretary of Development, ideally at the same time as Arms Race at 8:00 CET (note: there’s usually a long queue!), and then use Speedups to finish buildings as resources allow. Smart planning lets you finish buildings on this day.

UR Trucks and Missions

You’ll make your first million and more on this day with Trucks and Secret Missions. Save Trade Contracts and Secret Orders to generate as many URs as possible. You can buy Trade Contracts for 100 in the shop—it’s worth it!

There's a nice "hack" regarding star missions or "shinys". You can save them for this day and score points for one additional UR mission.

Don’t Unpack Buildings

Another trick is to build buildings during the week but don’t “unpack” them. If you do this on Tuesday, they all generate VS points.

To avoid accidentally unpacking buildings too early, enable “Construction Confirmation” in settings. This pops up a dialog asking if you really want to finish the building. Also, note that buildings finished with Diamonds are completed instantly and not “packed.”

Day 3: Science

Like Day 2, today is all about pushing research, especially those that use Valor Badges! Ideally, grab the Secretary position at 12:00 CET and research as much as your Speedups and resources allow. Focus on Alliance Duel, Intercity Truck, and Special Forces to spend medals. It’s also worth finishing short research (under five hours) in other categories. Finally, start long research with medals to maximize points.

Radar Tasks

Save radar tasks the day before so you start VS day with a full set. See Saving Radar Tasks.

Drone Component Chests

On Day 3, you can open your chests!

Day 4: Hero Upgrades

This is usually the day with the most points. You can spend Skill Medals, Universal Shards, and Hero Shards, and at 16:00 CET use Hero Recruitment Tickets and Hero XP together with Arms Race.

Note: You can upgrade gear all week. Upgrade Ore does not give points in VS or Arms Race.

Day 5: Total Mobilization

Day 5 is probably the trickiest conceptually, even though producing troops with the Secretary position and Arms Race sounds straightforward. There’s a clear best way to maximize points on this day.

Radar Tasks

Save radar tasks the day before so you start VS day with a full set. See Saving Radar Tasks.

Staggered Squad Training

Staggered squad training means you pre-produce only low-level troops during the week and upgrade them on Friday. Your Barracks must be staggered in a specific way:

If you have HQ20, one Barracks should be Level 20 to produce Level 7 troops. The second should be between Level 17 and 19 for Level 6 troops. The third should be between 14 and 16 for Level 5 troops, and the last between 10 and 13 for Level 4 troops. Barracks must not be higher, or the system won’t work!

During the week, pre-produce Level 3 troops in all Barracks. On Friday, upgrade troops across the four Barracks from Level 3Level 4Level 5Level 6Level 7. Use Speedups if possible to keep all Barracks running at the same time.

Your training ground on Friday should look something like this:

Day 6: Enemy Buster

Saturday is all about direct confrontation with the VS opponent. Both sides can teleport for free to the enemy server and attack bases there. You get points for every unit destroyed. When attacking, watch for the animation with crossed-out units above the base—only when this appears have you destroyed units and earned points. Otherwise, you’re just wasting stamina.

Shields, Shields, Shields!!!

At 04:00 CET, all hell breaks loose. At server reset, many players teleport over and attack anything not protected by a shield.

If you don’t want to participate in the chaos, stock up on shields in the Alliance Shop or VIP Shop to cover the time from 04:00 CET Saturday to 04:00 CET Sunday. Usually, you’ll put up a shield Friday night and need to refresh it sometime Saturday to last until 04:00. Even if nothing can happen behind the shield, don’t put squads on the wall (see Wall Squad Management)! Better safe than sorry. If you go into Saturday without a shield and with squads on the wall, you’re giving the enemy free points.

Free Teleporting

You can use the VS screen under the "Alliance Assaults" tab to teleport for free to the enemy and back.

The button activates on Saturday and has a five-minute cooldown.

You can also use it to reposition your base for free. Just teleport behind your shield to the enemy server and back.

You don’t have to wait for your squads to return to base—after teleporting, all are back at HQ!

Reinforcing with Active Shield

Players with an active shield can support alliance teammates and teleport with them to the enemy. They can reinforce bases without losing protection. Just watch who’s attacking your ally—a strong player can still defeat reinforced bases and destroy many units.

Defense Strategy

Unfortunately, there’s no effective defense strategy. That’s why using shields is mandatory, especially if you’re not online. Alliance members can reinforce unshielded bases, but it’s a losing battle since teleporting enemies play cat-and-mouse.

Attack Strategy

When you teleport to the enemy, attack smaller bases and scout first to see if they have reinforcements. When attacking, make sure units are actually destroyed—if not, move to the next base. Sometimes stronger players from the alliance or server will teleport next to you and attack. You can use the VS screen to instantly teleport back to your own server. It’s best to teleport somewhere hard to find, wait five minutes, and then go back. As mentioned, attackers have a huge advantage in this cat-and-mouse game. You can also teleport like in Desert Storm even if your squads aren’t back at base!

Coordinate with two or three others to create chaos. Sometimes members with shields can join and defend where it makes sense.

Alliance Duel League

The Alliance Duel League is a multi-week format where 16 alliances face off in a league system. There are promotions and relegations between Silver, Gold, and Diamond leagues, and daily/weekly rank, participation, and phase rewards scale with higher league membership. At the end of the season, there are massive rewards for all alliance members based on the alliance’s place in the league table.

The league format doesn’t require extra effort. Ideally, all alliance members just get more rewards. The power differences within the league can be pretty big. You might lose duels badly some weeks, while in others you can easily farm chests and then have no extra work.

The mode is a knockout system wrapped within a league format. In the first week, alliances face off randomly. After that, participants are sorted by wins and points in the VS week, and it’s 1vs2, 3vs4, 5vs6, etc. This continues for three weeks, so you get a round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals with a loser bracket. In week four, the two undefeated alliances face off in the final showdown to crown the season champion.
